Information
security or infosec is a set of practices that keep your data information
secure from unofficial access or alteration or both while being stored or sent
from one machine to another. Information security is often used interchangeably
with cybersecurity. Cybersecurity refers to protecting your IT data from attack
while information security is sub-discipline under cybersecurity. Network
security and application security are other practices under cybersecurity.
These sub-disciplines have to work together to ensure your data is secure. It is
important to remember not all data is stored electronically but also needs to
be secured. The three principles of information security are confidentiality,
integrity, and availability also called CIA.
